Painting to me is both an emotional and challenging experience. I enjoy the problem solving and decision making involved to create something new, interesting and beautiful on canvas. My painting is a performance to achieve a desired outcome.
I especially like still life painting and creating interesting vignettes. Most enjoyable to me are flowers as a subject and the spontaneity of plein air and alla prima painting. I also like to play and have fun with whimsical fashion inspired themes such as my arrangement of accessories with a whole lobster. Painting mostly in oil, I use a limited palette to create vibrant colors and harmony.
When people see my work my hope is that it creates an emotional experience for them and gives them pleasure when they look at it.
A favorite teacher of mine always said that “painting is life giving” and I find this to be true.
